Hollywood it-girl, Theresa Mingus, shares her brand journey!

Hollywood it-girl, Theresa Mingus, shares her brand journey!

Theresa Mingus is the founder of Hollywoods hottest swimwear label, Krahs Swim. Theresa has faced tremendous hardships including her mother struggling with a drug addiction and an absentee father. With resilience, she manifested the negativity in her life into positivity and found herself working side-by-side two of the most iconic fashion and pop-culture icons of her generations, Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez, and now the successful owner of a globally recognised brand.

What inspired you to start your own brand and why bikinis?
I’ve always been drawn to fashion, interior decorating, photo shoots, photo editing. I’m a very visual person. I see what I like and how I want something to look. After working for high profile people and brands, I knew I was ready to dive into a profession that represented my passion.
Before even launching the brand, people intuitively knew I was creating a swim line because I was known on social media for always being in a bikini. I’ve always been a curvy woman, and I’ve always struggled to find swimsuits that both complement my body and that I feel comfortable in. I want to create pieces that fit effortlessly on women. No one likes suits that cut into your side or bunch up or squeeze too tightly. I want my suits to be like a second skin, like undergarments so that when women put them on, they feel confident and comfortable.

What is the meaning behind Krahs?

Krahs is literally shark spelled backwards. Symbolically, I want Krahs to represent strength, female empowerment, determination, and family. I do not want Krahs to be known as just another “brand.” I want people to know my story, know what it took for me to get here, and to be inspired by my journey. Above all, I want Krahs to reflect what “real” looks like. Different bodies, different ages, different backgrounds.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt from working in Hollywood with high profile people?
I’ve learned the importance of being genuine and remaining true to yourself. It’s definitely a challenging industry to establish yourself and establish trust. From the beginning, I made a commitment to remember where I come from and to be true to myself. I’ve found that people respect you more when you don’t pretend to be someone you’re not and the positive energy you put out in the world is what you’ll receive in return.

Who inspires you the most and why?

My group of girlfriends inspires me the most. I met most of my best friends in middle school and we all ended up in LA together and have become a family. We’ve all had pretty unconventional backgrounds. A lot of us didn’t do the traditional college route and oftentimes people judge you for that, so I’m inspired by their determination and their resilience when it comes to making their dreams a reality.

What's your favourite scent of Breeze Balm?

Love the raw honesty and humility. Those who have been through addiction need more people to share their journeys and paths to change.
